Brian Petersen MBA, CPA, CMA, CFP
An accountant that listens to you? Precisely.
Brian is the brilliant accountant behind BP Tax. He graduated at the top of his class for a good reason; he loves math. At the early age of 18, he incorporated his first company. His passion for finance is all consuming and has been described as “intense” but in a good way!
What do all the letters at the end of Brian’s name mean? MBA – Brian earned his Masters of Business Administration from McMaster. He studied and excelled in finance, accounting and economics at one of the best business schools in the country. CMA – Brian is a Certified Management Accountant. This designation means that not only is he educated in all aspects of tax and accounting but that he must take professional development courses to maintain his designation in good standing with The Society of Management Accountants. CFP – Certified Financial Planner. It only made sense that Brian would merge his love of corporate finance with his passion for serving his client’s personal financial needs. This qualification pulls together his passion for both and allows him to act as both your accountant and your financial advisor.
Branching OUt On His Own
After a decade of working in the corporate world holding positions of Controller for a major Canadian retailer, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for private companies it was time to open his own practice.
Opening a tax, accounting and investment services business in the early nineties that focused on tax issues for self-employed taxpayers was only the starting point to building the thriving practice of today.
Having over 25 years of experience in the field ensures a comfort level of expert knowledge. However, being focused, persistent and goal oriented in getting the best tax return possible with each client are skills that are simply a result of being passionate. Which is why clients often say he has a kid glove approach to explaining the details and making things simple and easy to understand.
His dynamic mind offers a unique and creative perspective when it comes to numbers. By keeping a pulse on current tax laws each client is more than covered. Large firms can’t compete because their overhead structure dictates the prices they charge. Because of this, junior level accountants they hire are then instructed to complete files quickly. Which result in cookie-cutter returns. Brian believes client relationships are built on mutual trust and respect.
At BP Tax mediocrity and conformity is not acceptable. The mandate is simply not to meet the clients’ objectives but to exceed them.
