Estate Tax Returns
We understand that dealing with tax matters after the loss of a loved one can feel overwhelming. Our role is to help you navigate these requirements with clarity and care.
T1 Return
The T1 “final return” covers the period from January 1 up to the date of death. It is filed in the same way as other personal returns, and is generally due by April 30 of the following year.
T3 Return
The T3 estate return is not always required. We will review your situation and advise if one is needed. This return covers the estate as a separate legal entity starting the day after death. Unlike the T1, the T3 does not need to follow the calendar year—you can choose a year-end up to 52 weeks after it begins. The filing deadline is three months after the chosen year-end.
TX-19 Clearance Certificate
The TX-19 application for a clearance certificate is optional, but in many cases it provides peace of mind by confirming that no further taxes are owed by the estate. We can help you determine whether it’s the right step for your situation.
